My week
Do one exercise a day and your streak keeps going 🔥Displayed hours
Only the teacher can manage working hours.
Regular lessons are placed automatically every week. If a student has not joined within 15 minutes, do not delete the lesson: open it and set the status to Student no-show with a reason.
This is your personal schedule: only your own lessons are shown. The schedule is managed by your teacher — write to her if you need to reschedule a lesson.

🛠 How to launch it for real
- Create a bot in @BotFather and copy the token.
- Put the token into
bot.js(or theBOT_TOKENenvironment variable). - Run
node bot.json any server — long polling needs no domain or SSL. - The bot links a chat to a student by the code from this page and then sends reminders itself.
This is a live preview: the messages are built from the real data of the account — the schedule, homework, balance and the words added today.

Knowledge base
Everything a SpeakOn teacher needs, in one place. This is what we have learned in practice: most points are recommendations, not an exam. Something missing? Write to the methodologist — the section will appear within a week.
01Your first week
A guide for your first week. It is a plan, not a rule: if something slips by a day or two, that is fine.
02How we make decisions
Four principles that almost every argument comes down to.
The quality score, counted every 8 weeks, rests on the same principles (section 11).
03Cabinet & schedule
The schedule in the cabinet is the main source of truth, so anything agreed in a messenger should be moved here right away.
Lesson statuses
| Status | When to set it | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Lesson planned | The lesson is in the grid and its time has not come yet. Regular lessons are placed automatically a week ahead. | You do nothing |
| Lesson conducted | The lesson took place. It is easiest to set it right after the lesson, together with a comment for the parents. | The lesson counts for payment |
| Student no-show | The student did not come. Wait 15 minutes, write to the student and the manager, then set the status and say briefly what happened. | The lesson is still paid to you |
Student card
Before the first lesson open the student page and read Name, Link for communication, Study pace, Study goals, Note. The Note field is for what a parent will not see: “afraid of making mistakes out loud”, “works better after 17:00”, “away for a month in summer”. Update the card after every progress review: if the student is handed over to another teacher, this card is all they will know.
Week ahead
There is no deadline for placing lessons — the schedule can be fixed any time. The easiest way is to open next week once a week, say on Friday, and check three things:
- whether the regular lessons moved over correctly when the week switched;
- whether there are slots you are not ready to take students in this time — then remove them from Work hours;
- whether any lesson from last week is left without a status.
Those five minutes remove most misunderstandings with the manager and the parents.
04Lesson standard
50 minutes for years 5–11, 40 minutes for years 1–4. The minutes are a guide — tap a stage to see the details.
Three ideas every lesson rests on
The language of the lesson
The lesson is in English from day one. We switch to Ukrainian in three cases: explaining grammar in years 1–4, an emotional moment, an organisational question with the parents. Everywhere else it is worth trying English — even with prompts and gestures.
Teacher’s notes and the Language box
Every task has Teacher’s notes — why the task is there and where children usually stumble. Read them while preparing, not out loud in the lesson. The Language box is the rule explained in the student’s language plus two exercises; this is what the child comes back to at home, so do not leave it empty.
05Homework
Homework exists for practice, not for reporting. A good guide: the child should finish it in about 15 minutes.
| What | The SpeakOn rule |
|---|---|
| Size | 10–15 minutes for years 1–4, 15–25 for years 5–11. One speaking or listening task is a must. |
| When we give it | Best of all — in the lesson: the child sees the task in Homework before leaving the room. |
| Personalisation | The builder lets you attach a task to one particular student in a group. For a student who is behind — the same rule in a smaller portion, not “nothing”. |
| Checking | Aim for before the next lesson. Auto-checked exercises deserve a comment of 1–2 sentences. |
| If it is not done | Several times in a row — calmly write to the parents and leave a mark in Note. Did not help — call the methodologist: we look for the reason instead of adding more work. |
06Levels & progress reviews
Every 8 weeks we stop and look at what has changed in the child. This is the most valuable thing we show the parents.
We use the CEFR scale (A1–B2) and do not invent names of our own. Every student has their own level, even inside a group: a group is put together by level and school year, but the teacher pins a particular lesson to a particular student if they are behind or running ahead.
| Skill | How we assess it | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Speaking | A 1–2 minute monologue + a dialogue on the topic of the cycle. We listen for fluency, not perfection. | 1–5 |
| Listening | An audio at the student’s level + 5 questions. | 1–5 |
| Reading | A text at the student’s level + questions on understanding and guessing. | 1–5 |
| Grammar & Vocabulary | A test on the topics of the cycle, on the platform. | 1–5 |
After the review write a summary of 5–7 sentences: what has grown, what has dropped, the goal for the next 8 weeks, what to do at home. Parents see the summary in the cabinet and get it by email.
07Talking to parents
Parents pay not for lessons, but for the feeling that they understand what is going on.
A comment after every lesson
- What you did — one sentence.
- What worked — concretely, with an example of the child’s own phrase.
- What you are working on next.
- What to do at home and how long it will take.
When the news is bad
Do not soften it beyond recognition. The shape is: the fact → what it means → what we suggest → what we need from the parents.
“Over the month Artem came to 5 lessons out of 8 and did 2 homeworks out of 6. We have lost two topics from the programme, and his Speaking score at the review most likely will not go up. I suggest bringing the missed topics back over two lessons and halving the homework for a week so that he starts doing it again. From you — that Artem sits down to it at the same time every day.”
08When things go wrong
First aid: find your situation and follow the steps.
The student did not come to the lesson
The child is silent or refuses to speak
The child is crying in the lesson
The student cannot keep up with the level
Parents are unhappy and write emotionally
The internet died or the platform is down
You are ill
A student asks for your contact to study “directly”
09Child safety & contact
A few agreements that protect both the child and you.
- A little child’s first lesson happens next to a parent. We ask an adult to be there for the first lesson: the child feels calmer and the parents see how everything works. After that it is better to work one on one — with an adult nearby a child is often shy to speak and keeps looking back at them.
- Lessons run in Google Meet or Zoom. The link is in the student card and in the schedule. Do not move lessons to other services and do not change the link without telling the manager.
- Talk to parents where it suits them: in the messenger or social network they chose. Parents give the child’s own contacts at their own discretion — do not ask the child for them directly.
- If a child tells you about violence, self-harm or danger at home: do not promise to keep it secret, do not ask for details and do not judge; calmly finish the lesson and the same day write to the methodologist using the child’s exact words. From there the school follows its protocol — you are not left alone with this.
- An air raid alert during the lesson. Calmly ask the child whether they can carry on, and act on the situation: continue, shorten or finish the lesson. If the lesson was cut off — check with the student’s manager whether to move it or count it.
10Cancellations & cover
One table worth keeping to hand.
| Situation | The student’s lesson | Your pay |
|---|---|---|
| The student cancelled more than 12 hours ahead | Goes back to the balance | Not paid |
| The student cancelled less than 12 hours ahead | Taken off the balance | 100% of the rate |
| Student no-show | Taken off the balance | 100% of the rate |
| You cancelled 24+ hours ahead | Goes back to the balance, the manager agrees a new time | Not paid |
| You cancelled less than 24 hours ahead | Goes back to the balance + an apology from the school | Not paid, affects your discipline score |
| The school cancelled: an outage, a schedule mistake | Goes back to the balance | 50% of the rate |
| An air raid alert | Ask the student whether they can carry on; then decide with the manager: move it or count it | 100% if the lesson had started |
Holidays
Planning a holiday — tell us about a month ahead. That is enough time to find cover for your students or agree a break with them. The manager will help, but it is calmer for a child when the arrangement comes from you. Days between public holidays and university exams — just as early, please.
11Pay in short
The full logic is in the document “How a SpeakOn teacher is paid”. Here is what you need day to day.
The score depends on: how many of your students carried on studying, how they did in the review, whether you write comments and check homework regularly, how parents and children rate you. The number of lessons taught does not affect the rate — we do not pay for time served.
Paperwork: sole trader, group 3; the act is generated automatically in the cabinet at the start of the month. Questions about bank details and acts go to accounting, not to the methodologist.
12Grades & growth
Three levels, clear criteria, a review every 8 weeks at your own request.
| Grade | What they can do | How to move up |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher | Runs lessons to the standard consistently, keeps the schedule and the comments up to date without reminders. | The starting point after the intensive and the demo lesson |
| Senior Teacher | Pulls difficult groups through, teaches exam or year-one classes, gives feedback to colleagues. | 2 cycles with a score of 1.15 or more · an open lesson · a C1 certificate or internal assessment |
| Lead Teacher | Mentors newcomers, writes materials for the library, takes part in reviewing the methodology. | 4 cycles, 2 of them with a score of 1.25 · one mentorship · 5 own lessons in the library |
You apply for a grade review yourself in the cabinet — the school does not “notice” you on its own, and that is not a slight but a way not to miss anyone who is ready. A refusal always comes with a list of what is missing and the date of the next review.
13What really matters
Almost everything in this base is a recommendation. Here are the few things that really matter.
- Warn us if you are late or cancelling a lesson — a short message is enough.
- Leave a comment for the parents after the lesson.
- Look at the student card before the lesson.
- Check the homework before the next lesson.
- Moving a school student to private lessons around the platform.
- Humiliating a child, shouting, comments about their looks, family or ability — even as a joke.
14Checklists
The ticks are not saved — this is a cheat sheet for the day, not a report.
15 minutes before the lesson
Within 10 minutes after the lesson
Review week (every 8 weeks)
15Who does what
So that a question does not wander around the chats for two days.
| Role | What to ask them about | Reply time |
|---|---|---|
| Methodologist | Methodology, levels, reviews, a difficult child, a conflict with parents, assessment | within the working day |
| Schedule manager | Moved lessons, cover, new students, holidays, sick days | 2 hours, Mon–Sat |
| Parent coordinator | A student’s payments, refunds, complaints, a change of teacher | within the working day |
| Platform support | The cabinet, video, tasks that will not open, player errors | 30 minutes during lesson hours |
| Accounting | Acts, bank details, sole trader paperwork, a mismatch in a payout | 2 working days |
The contacts are in the pinned message of the work chat. Something urgent during a lesson — call the manager, do not message.
